In all reverse-osmosis systems, as storage tanks become full, back-pressure from permeate (product) water causes the transfer of water through the reverse-osmosis membrane to slow down. Instead of using 3 gallons to make 1 gallon of product water, RO systems may use 10 gallons or more to make 1 gallon of product water before engaging the automatic shut-off valve. Living Waters™ systems feature an optional permeate pump which relieves back-pressure on the RO membrane thus allowing water to be made faster, dramatically reducing water waste. It also causes water to be delivered with more pressure from the dispensing faucet. Use where water waste and/or maximum faucet pressure are primary concerns.
