This replacement cartridge for the ShowerSprite® shower filters utilizes a hefty 20 oz. (500% more than the competition) of patented KDF®55 redox media. KDF®55 is a unique patented media that uses the natural process of electrochemical oxidation/reduction (redox potential) to effectively remove chlorine and its associated disinfection by-products (DBP's) like trihalomethanes (THM's); heavy metals including arsenic, lead, cadmium, mercury, and aluminum; hydrogen sulfide (up to 0.5 ppm); as well as control bacteria, fungus, algae, and mold, while rendering water bacteriostatic. KDF® media far outlasts carbon (up to a factor of 10 to 1) and effectively reduces the formation of hardness scale which can damage plumbing fixtures and leave hard-to-remove deposits on fixtures and tile.
